  • What are Antacids?

    Antacids are short acting agents that work by changing the gastric acid to water and salt, thereby neutralising it. Repeated dosing is necessary to provide ongoing relief from the newly secreted stomach acid. The duration of action is up to 3 hours3,4.

  • What are Alginates?

    Alginates are also short-acting agents that work by forming a temporary physical barrier or raft on top of the stomach contents, thereby stopping the gastric acid rising up the oesophagus. The effectiveness of these products is dependent on the contents of the stomach, for example if taking on an empty stomach, during a meal or lying down, the effectiveness of these products are reduced. Duration of action is up to 4 hours4.

  • What are H2As?

    H2 Receptor Antagonists (H2As) reduce the secretion of stomach acid, by blocking one of the three signals that stimulate stomach acid production. H2As can provide symptom control for 12-24 hours.
